SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 23
(By Senators Ball, Anderson, Bailey, Boley, Buckalew,
Deem, Fanning, Hunter, Love, McKenzie, Oliverio,
Ross, Schoonover, Sharpe and White)
Requesting the Joint Committee on Government and Finance to make a
study of holding girls' and boys' basketball seasons during
different times.
Whereas, At most schools, both the girls' and boys' basketball
teams are sharing one gymnasium; and
Whereas, Both the girls' and boys' basketball teams are
scheduling times to practice within a limited time frame after
school; and
Whereas, This can result in students practicing past nine
o'clock p.m.; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Joint Committee on Government and Finance is hereby
requested to review, examine and study the schedules that schools
are using to allow times for all of their basketball teams to
practice, the effectiveness of the scheduling, and if ineffective,
the alternative of holding girls' and boys' basketball seasons at
different times; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Joint Committee on Government and
Finance report to the regular session of the Legislature, 1999, on its findings, conclusions and recommendations, together with drafts
of any legislation necessary to effectuate its recommendations;
and, be it
Further Resolved, That the expenses necessary to conduct this
study, to prepare a report and to draft necessary legislation be
paid from legislative appropriations to the Joint Committee on
Government and Finance.
